These days, all public buildings must have some form of access control and established policies and procedures for an emergency lockdown. Implementing an electronic access control system not only helps better manage and track who is accessing doors and when, it is also extremely helpful in executing strategic lockdown policies.
Lockdowns normally occur in the event of a threat occurring inside a building. In these situations, it is crucial to have a plan in place so everyone (from your security team, to all the employees, students, and visitors) knows what to do in the case of an incident. Your lockdown strategy and measures should include immediate actions to secure the building and all the people who are inside.
In the event of a threat occurring outside of the building, lockout measures aim at maintaining operations inside the building as close to normal as possible while securing the outer perimeter of the building. The main goal of a lockout response is to require everyone to return inside and eventually locking all doors and/or gates that enable access to the building.

Ways to Enable Lockdown from Access Manager
1. Using an ID Badge
A cardholder, or a group of designated cardholders, may be assigned permissions to enable lockdown using their existing ID badge. Our triple-tap lockdown feature allows specified cardholders with lockdown privileges to present a valid credential to a reader three times in a row to enact a lockdown for all doors, or a specified group of doors, automatically. By using their badge, you can eliminate the extra step of someone having to get to a physical button or the software interface to put the system in lockdown mode.
2. With a Physical Button
A physical lockdown button requires interaction with a physical input (ex: a pull, switch, or button) that causes lockdown to be initiated. The button can be configured to send doors into lockdown either after a single tap or triple tap and can be kept under a desk or wherever it is easily accessible. We recommend configuring this button for three taps if it is in a location where it could accidentally be pushed once.
3. From Within the Software
BadgePass Access Manager also offers a method to initiate lockdown from the software interface itself. A user must have the appropriate permissions to be able to execute this action. This allows users who may not be near a physical input button or a designated access control reader to still initiate a lockdown, if needed.
